The Leopard 2 is the Bundeswehr's current main battle tank.
With its 1500 HP engine, 120mm smoothbore cannon, and excellent armour protection, it represents state-of-the-art military technology. Thanks to its innovative electronics and superior optics, it is considered one of the best battle tanks in the world.
The latest version, the A7V, features an improved reversing camera that provides clear visibility even in poor conditions and darkness. Both the gunner and commander have 3rd generation sights. Ice cleats are now stored at the rear of the turret. With an improved barrel, the tank can fire more modern ammunition, extending its range up to 5,000 metres. Digitised electronics allow for connection to the Battle Management System (BMS), enhancing information exchange among troops. Air conditioning boosts crew stamina. Additional armour on the front increases protection against armour-piercing ammunition. The higher weight necessitated a reinforced transmission and changes to the drive train. The Leopard 2 A7V, weighing 63.9 tons, has a top speed of 63 km/h.
