[ About the Speed8 2003LM ]
Bentley first entered motor racing during the 1920s, where they participated in Le Mans 24 hours until 1930. However, the company was bough out in 1931, and they would not be seen at Le Mans again until 2001. In preparation of their return 71 years later at the Sarthe circuit, Bentley prepared the "Speed 8", based on the Audi R8C from 2000 and equipped with a V8 twin turbo engine. The name "Speed 8" was a homage to their previous car the "Speed Six" (that ran in 1929-30), which was named based on the fact that it held a straight-six engine. During its first year the Speed 8 managed to take 3rd place at Le Mans, and in the following Le Mans in 2002 it managed a 4th place finish. Finally in 2003, the Speed 8 managed a 1-2 finish, giving the crown back to Bentley after a 73 year drought.
