Revell 62165 1/87 Big Boy Locomotive Model Set (kit, glue, brush, paints)
The American Big Boys are among the longest and largest steam locomotives ever built in the world. In the late 1930s, Union Pacific frequently used auxiliary locomotives to pull trains from Ogden, Utah, over the steep pass to Wasatch. To streamline this process, Union Pacific's design department was tasked with creating a new locomotive capable of pulling a 3,600-ton train (up to 4,200 tons) over the pass.
A total of 25 Big Boy locomotives were built in two groups. The first group, known as Class 1, began production in 1941, followed by Class 2 in 1944. The last Big Boy locomotive hauled its final freight train in July 1959, and most were retired by 1961.
